A day in the life of an event.
What I am currently working on in my balloon business.
I am a girl that sticks to her promise. Therefore, on this blog I'm going to show you behind the scenes of what I got up to on a job, explain step by step what I must do to create an outstanding set up.
The Job that I am going to show you took place on the 22nd of October 2024. The location of the job was in the Balmoral hotel, and I was asked for an arch for over the stage and a gold glitter wall of the colors black and purple balloons. This event was an event set up by my old secondary school St. Louises comprehensive collage as a business charity event called ‘She means Business’ therefore I was privileged to have been asked to supply the balloons and decorate the hall.
First things first to be prepared, my first task was to go to the wholesalers and get 3 bags of each color (Black and Purple) in 12 inch and 5 inch to make sure that we had enough balloons for the setup. The wholesale that I use is budget greeting cards in Mullusk Belfast. Secondly, to be prepared I go to the unit where I make balloons and keep all my stock and supplies, I load the car with the arches that I need and pack everything into a bag what I need to help me (scissors, balloon pump, cable ties, clamps and many more).
On the Day of the event, I unload the car and bring the stands into the function, to set the arch up over the stage its only putting the rods together and making sure the arch stays down by adding a water weight. The glitter wall is more complicated. There is 3long poles for the top and 2 sides of the stand and 2 mental plates as weights so that the stand dose not move. You also have 49 panels, and you have to attach the panels into each other like a jigsaw puzzle. I will add an image to show you what I mean.
Once the arches are set up, I then blow the balloons up via an electric pump. The electric pump blows the ballons up in 2s, this saves me time and energy rather than using an individual hand up which will require more time. I then tie the 2 balloons together and do so for a while and then I will make bunches/clusters of 6 balloons or 4 balloons as this will make the backdrop look fuller by using less balloons.

After all the balloons are blown up and clusters are made, I tie the clusters together on top of each other to make the balloons go in an upward position. I then tie the balloons onto the stand to keep them standing up Stright. I then tie more clusters of balloons together and tie them onto the top of the stand sideways so that there are balloons going up the side and across the top as this is what the client requested. I then get my 5-inch balloons. These balloons are a lot smaller as they are used to fill in gaps that may be shown on the display. I blow and tie the balloons in 3s as I think they look better in 3s instead of 4s these are then added by long stringy balloons called 320s. To finish the set up off I added a led strobe light in purple to make the backdrop more colorful and vibrant for the guests.

This is the finishing piece of how the backdrop tuned out. I didn't record or take photos of the arch backdrop due to bad timing although the same techniques apply. However, I hope Yous like it and maybe learn how to set up your own backdrops or balloon arches for any events. Stay tuned for more blogs on party luxe events. Cassie xx
